First, there’s nothing wrong with doughnuts. Ever.
But let’s just say this November 5, you want to celebrate Love Your Lawyer Day some other way than with a box of doughnuts in the breakroom.
Before we get to the first Friday in November (the day the American Bar Association has designated Love Your Lawyer Day), give some thought to whether any of these four ideas are a good fit for your Love Your Lawyer Day:
Take in some new perspective
On November 3, digital marketing guru Neil Patel will join FindLaw’s Melissa Jones for a complimentary fireside chat. They plan to share insights on how small law firms and solo attorneys can allocate their marketing resources and mental focus strategically. They’ll discuss identifying the correct target market, online reputation management, and how to generate more referrals from past clients and fellow attorneys. In particular, they’ll take a deeper look at directories and how and why they make good sense for law firms of any size. Registration to virtually attend their November 3 exchange of ideas is now open.
Get your volunteer shoes on
The ABA encourages attorneys to provide 50 hours of pro bono service every year, and there no doubt are several worthy organizations in your community. Bear in mind, though, that not all volunteering has to be the pro bono provision of legal services. Performing some other type of volunteer service would serve a twofold benefit: Increasing your exposure outside of the legal community and getting you out of the legal realm so you can take a mental break of sorts. (That’s over and above the benefit to the organization for which you’re volunteering, of course.) If this sounds like a good idea to you, start by seeing if there are any parks, libraries, animal shelters or student groups in your community that could use a helping hand.
Make plans for 2022
Lawyers at law firms of any size give a lot of themselves to their jobs. This Love Your Lawyer Day, you might benefit from taking some time away from day-to-day concerns and giving some thought to how you can improve your practice, expand your business operations, or, perhaps, whether you should scale back a little here and there so you can obtain a better work-life balance. If that idea appeals to you, our complimentary law firm business growth kits are available now and include our popular Annual Law Firm Business Planner. The planner has been designed by people who know lawyers inside and out and is tailored for this exact purpose. It’s meant to provide you with guided thinking as to how you may want to change, double down, or pivot in 2022.
See what’s happening on social
If your law firm is on social media (and if it isn’t, why isn’t it?), follow the hashtag #LoveYourLawyerDay on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to see how law firms across the country – and even the world – are celebrating Love Your Lawyer Day. Don’t worry about Fear of Missing Out – if you see something you like, you can always borrow that idea next year for your own celebration.
Now that you’ve had time to consider whether one, some or all of the ideas work for you, keep the most important thing in mind – you can do any one of them and still bring in doughnuts.
